Artwork & FAQs

What is laser engraving?

Laser engraving is a method of permanently marking a design onto a material (such as wood) using a focused laser beam. The laser removes or darkens the surface layer to create the design. Unlike printing, laser engraving does not use ink, paint, or colour. The design is created using natural tones created by the laser’s reaction with the material. Because it is engraved into the surface, it won’t peel, crack, or rub off like a printed design can.

Artwork & Engraving

Do I get an engraving proof?

Yes. Every order includes an engraving proof before production begins.

We'll email your proof showing the engraving size and position. Nothing is engraved until you've approved it.

One round of minor amendments is included. If we can't produce a proof you're happy with, we'll refund your order before production begins.

What if my logo isn’t suitable?

If your artwork isn't suitable for engraving, don't worry—we'll contact you before production starts and discuss the best option with you. This may involve requesting a better-quality file, making a minor adjustment where possible, or discussing any additional artwork costs before proceeding.

Nothing is engraved without your approval.

Do you offer design services?

We specialise in engraving rather than graphic design, so we don't create logos, recreate artwork or design custom shapes. If you're unsure whether your artwork is ready, we're happy to advise before you order.

What file formats work best?
  • SVG (preferred)
  • PDF
  • PNG (high-resolution, black artwork on a transparent background)

Ordering

Can I order a small test run?

Minimum order quantities are shown on each product page. As a small business, we're unable to offer one-off samples, but our low minimum orders make it easy to try a product before committing to a larger quantity.

Can I cancel or change my order?

You're welcome to change or cancel your order at any time before production begins. Once production has started, we're no longer able to make changes or accept cancellations, as each item is made to order.

Can I order larger quantities than shown?

Yes. If you need a larger quantity than listed, please get in touch for a bespoke quote

Production & Delivery

How long does production take?

Because your order is lovingly handcrafted, the average lead time is 2–3 weeks from order to dispatch. After your order is placed, within 24 hours, we’ll email with an estimated dispatch date and engraving proof. Need to know delivery timescales before you place your order? No problem, email me, Annie at hello@littlemerchcompany.co.uk

What postal service do you use?

Most orders are sent via Royal Mail Tracked 48. Larger orders may be delivered by courier, depending on their size. We'll send you tracking details where applicable.

Who makes the products?

Every order is engraved and made by me, Annie, in my solar-powered workshop in Devon. I personally look after every stage of production, with daily moral support (and unofficial quality control!) provided by Fern the pup. 🐾
